::PSO Series 2 - HUcaseal:: by martinhoulden ::PSO Series 2 - HUcaseal:: by martinhoulden
3rd in PSO Series 2 2009, 3 of 12!

HUcaseal is a neglected character - mainly because it only became available in the GC Episode II version, and never the original. Regardless, it's been a grower for me, and whilst I never really liked it at the time, I think theres a lot of potential in the design somewhere for some cool pictures.

I'm really trying to push narrative in these pics, as I dont have enough practice at it. It's all too easy to have the narrative of "trying to look badass", hehe.

Hope you enjoy! All comments welcome and appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Even for us dedicated GC players, HUcasseal are hard to play. Hunters without Techniques are difficult, and traps are a poor substitute.

Little robot girls tend to win on the cuteness factor, though...

As a PSO veteran from the Dreamcast launch, you make me happy and proud that there are still great admirers of the game out there after 10 years. Fantastic piece here. Love it!

The hi-res version of this is just jaw-dropping, I love the brush textures. Also, I found this looking for PSO fanart. I just procured a copy of the GCN version which I have not played in about 6 years and I remembered suddenly why I loved it so much; the concepts and designs, especially for the characters, were always really cool to me. I think you really grasped the concepts that the original designers were going for really well, not to mention the atmosphere is perfect in this piece. It's just nice to see someone taking this game seriously and doing a wicked good job at it at that.

What a realistic and personal bit of nostalgia. I looked at the rest of this series and it's just awesome to meet fellows who experienced the same depth from the PSO games that I and my friends have.

Thank you for reminding me and please keep it up.

Wowwww this is really good, the atmosphere is perfect. Is this based on an actual location in the game? Cause when I saw this image the first thing I thought was " I REMEMBER THAT SPOT. " I used to love playing the gamecube and DC versions of this thing.

Well, I took a screenshot in-game and used it as a rough skeleton =) But the trees were never that spindly, and it was typical sega blue-sky foresting, not gloomy rain! =)

Glad you recognised it!

I love the colors you used in this one, and the soft red daggers just stand out against the harder-toned background.
The backgrounds you're doing for these are fantastic! You're taking original concepts for them and glorifying them, not just copying them from the game. It gives it a great original feel as well as still being nostalgic.
Great work.

:D funstuff ! I really liked the Phantasy Star language of Design since PSIV on genesis / mega drive. as a fan of it I mutter about the online thingy and the weak offline story (and now I have lost my codes and cant play the damn game lol) , but the first level catched the feeling of the magic/technique world very well :D

I really like your fanwork, decend stuff ! I just miss the green element of this areal, it gave the level this special feeling <3 but yout totally catched the grip at the characters , loved those pics :3

It's overall a beautiful work, as always. However, perfection shall always be an unreachable goal, so there are a few things I'd like to point out, related to the HuCaseal herself/itself/whatever! XD

1- Her hips, more brecisely her left hips, are too proeminent, as if the hip bones are trying to be viewed from the front, when they should be viewed in a 3/4 prespective, like the rest of the body. This kinda makes her left thigh connect in a rather weird way to her hip.

2- Her breasts look a lil' too squeezed to her right. By looking at how her line torso goes up her ribcage, it kinda looks like her left breast is almost in the middle of her chest. It's not as bad as I probably made it look like, but I couldn't find a better way to explain this... ^^;

Still, like i said before, the overall picture looks fantastic. Keep it up, as I'll wait patiently for more of your works! ^^

When me and my stepbrothers got the GC version w/ Episode II, this was the first class they both tried out and fell in love with. Me, I tried FOmar and epic failed. To this day, I wish I had the patience to level up a FOmar.

Beautiful rendering here, BTW. Love the ambiance, the alert pose. The daggers look... flat. Something off about them. Maybe it's just me. Great stuff otherwise!
